Carpet Care and Maintenance

Following a few simple tips, maintaining your carpet's showroom-new look is easy.

  • Vacuum Regularly
Over time, dirt and dust left in carpet become hard particles, which are deeply embedded by heavy foot traffic. Regular vacuuming not only prolongs the life of your carpet, it enhances its appearance. Vacuum high-traffic areas daily, medium to high-traffic areas twice weekly, and the entire house at least once a week.
  • Floor Mats
Reduce soil and moisture in traffic areas by using frequently cleaned mats or rugs.
  • Furniture Coasters
Prevent damaging and discoloring indents caused by heavy items such as furniture with sharp legs or wheels.
  • Spills
Though most carpets are treated with several stain resistant and soil retardant chemicals, no carpet is completely stain proof. So, the most effective way to treat a spill is quickly, before the stain has a chance to set. Blotting up spills and spots with a clean, white, absorbent cloth or paper towel will make removal easier. For semi-solid spills, spoon them up with a rounded spoon and break up solid matter before vacuuming thoroughly. DO NOT rub, scrub or brush stains, it only makes them harder to remove and more prominent.
  • Protection
To extend the life and beauty of your carpet, close drapes or blinds during hours of direct sunlight. Also, be careful with all cleaning solutions, they can permanently discolor carpet fibers.
  • Professional Cleaning
Carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning every 18-24 months.

Use the following table to match your spot with its corresponding recommended removal method. Begin with the first method and continue until the spot is removed.

If stain is not removed, moisten with 3% hydrogen peroxide and leave for 2 to 3 hours under a weighted sheet of plastic wrap. Repeat procedure until stain is removed. Rinse with water. Dry with weighted pad of paper towels. Apply undiluted white vinegar only after stain is removed.
  7. Scrape off excess material. Cover with white cotton towel or brown paper. Apply warm iron until material is absorbed. Change towel or rotate to clean the area and repeat until all material is absorbed. Never touch iron to carpet.
  8. Vacuum away as much as possible. Loosen remaining material by tapping with a scrub brush or toothbrush. Vacuum again. Follow with Method 2.
